The Rugiero Promise Foundation celebrated an important milestone in 2025 as its signature Casino Royale fundraiser returned for its 15th anniversary. Inspired by “Fabulous Las Vegas,” the event brought together supporters for an evening of casino-style gaming, dining, entertainment and charitable giving.
Casino Royale was created to honor the life and legacy of Antonio Rugiero Sr., who passed away from complications related to diabetes. His family’s memories of attending restaurant industry events in Las Vegas with him helped inspire the fundraiser’s casino theme. What began as a personal tribute has since grown into a meaningful community tradition dedicated to advancing diabetes research.
Over the years, Casino Royale has welcomed thousands of attendees and generated significant support for the University of Michigan’s diabetes research programs. Its success has been made possible by a committed network of sponsors, donors, volunteers, vendors and community partners who share the Foundation’s belief that better treatments and a cure are possible.
Hour Detroit’s anniversary feature recognizes both the excitement of the annual event and the serious mission behind it. Every ticket, sponsorship, auction purchase and contribution helps provide researchers with resources to continue their work and move diabetes research forward.
